TPU
TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) is a flexible, rubber-like filament that bends and stretches without breaking.
Why it matters
TPU is what you print when a part needs to flex: phone cases, gaskets, grips, belts and vibration dampers. Prusa describes flexible materials as having excellent flexibility, tenacity and chemical resistance, with little to no shrinking or warping.
It is harder to print than rigid filament. Prusa rates flexible materials as suitable mostly for advanced users, citing clogging, poor bridging and filament tangling.
How soft a TPU feels depends on its Shore hardness. Many spools are rated 95A, but softer and harder grades exist, and settings change with the grade. Prusa gives nozzle ranges of roughly 230-245 °C for flexible materials in general, depending on hardness and brand.
TPU is hygroscopic. Prusa says flexible filaments can absorb moisture and become hard to print when wet, so store the spool in a drybox. Prusa’s TPU 95A guide says drying is usually unnecessary but advises it after poor storage.
