Price per kg

Price per kg is the listed price of a filament spool divided by its net filament weight in kilograms. It puts spools of different sizes on one scale.

Why it matters

Stores sell filament in spools of different sizes. The sticker price alone tells you little. A cheaper spool can cost more per kilogram if it holds less filament.

To work it out, divide the price by the net weight in kilograms. Use the weight of the filament itself, not the weight of the spool with its reel. See spool weight for how the two differ.

MakerSouq does this for every listing that states a weight we can read. If a listing doesn’t state one, it gets no price per kg. How MakerSouq works it out explains the method, including how we pick the typical price for a material.

Price per kg is a good first filter, but it isn’t the whole story. A spool of PLA and a spool of PETG are different materials, so compare like with like. Brand, colour and delivery fees also change what you pay.

To see current numbers, browse the UAE filament prices or Saudi filament prices. Both are sorted by price per kg.
